What is the Illinois Warrior Assistance Program?
The Illinois Warrior Assistance Program (IWAP) offers confidential assistance for returning Illinois veterans and their families to help deal with the emotional challenges of transitioning back to their daily lives.
For Returning Veterans
Veterans returning home experience a range of emotions in addition to feeling happy to be home – they can also feel overwhelmed, alone, and scared.
For the Family Members
Family members who are greeting their returning veteran may also experience a range of emotions. They can feel happy for their loved one's safe return while also feeling overwhelmed with emotion as to how to get back to daily living, how to be supportive during the transition period, and how to be sensitive to the emotional feelings that their loved one may be experiencing.
The goal of the IWAP is to help service members and their families find ways to deal with the emotional challenges they may be faced with as they begin the transition back into daily living.
